Alfriston School Fair, Friendly ,Fulfilling and Fun

Class 1

Class Teacher Mrs Hilary Ungoed
Teaching Assistant Mrs Gillian Nickalls Welcome to Reception!
A very warm welcome to everyone, particularly if this is your first child at Alfriston School. We hope you will enjoy being part of our communityDuring the first part of this term please bring your child straight into the classroom between 8.45 a.m. and 8.55 a.m. The rest of the school line up outside and come in at 8.45, so it is best to avoid this busy time! Later on this term Reception will join this routine.
When you come into the class please encourage your child to find their name and place it on our registration chart. Then you can help them choose a book from our reading area to take home. These books are for sharing. Please enjoy looking at them together during a quiet time and encourage your child to talk about the pictures, or spot letter sounds or familiar words. The children will also take home a more structured reading book from our scheme which we will change regularly.
The children will be provided with fruit or vegetables at snack time, however please feel free to send in an additional snack if you wish. They may bring any fresh fruit or vegetables, with water or juice to drink. There is also a tray for their water bottle, which they may drink from throughout the day.

Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school everyday. This will be sent home on Fridays.
For homework your child will be bringing home a phonics folder, which we will be using to help the children learn their letter sounds. We will be working on the main 42 sounds in the English language, not just the alphabet. Please could you ask your child which sounds they have learnt each day and let them show you the action that goes with it. We would be grateful if you could practice any sounds they are unsure of on a regular basis. This together with their daily reading will be the basis of their homework. We have also included some ideas for games and activities to help develop their mathematical skills. Obviously the children will be very tired straight after school so please choose a time when they are feeling responsive and willing to learn. Homework should be a pleasurable experience!
We have a Class toy Tiger which the children will be naming and he will be sent home with the children in turn. Your child could draw a picture and have a go at writing about the activities they have done together, or you may like to write what your child would like to say, in the book provided. Please return Tiger the following day, as another child will be eager for his return!
