Class 3 are Years 3 and 4. We are a very busy class as well as our everyday work we are also involved with the National Trust Guardianship Scheme. This is for six days of the year where we go to our local National Trust properties and study are environment and local history.

Welcome to Class 3, Mrs. Mepham Mrs. Carver and Mrs. Townsend are  the teachers in year 3 and 4

Classroom Organisation
We want to evolve an atmosphere of caring and sharing within our classroom. For this reason children will do not have personal trays, all books will be kept in group and central trays so please discourage your children from bringing in any extra belongings! The only thing we would ask is that children have a painting apron/shirt. This can be an old shirt, t-shirt or an apron this needs to be named as well as some sort of hook so it can be hung on their pegs.
Children are able to store their water bottles in the classroom and they can bring a piece of fruit for break time. This can be kept in the classroom.

Reading
We have a wide selection of Guided Reading Books. We aim to hear each child read in their guided reading group on a weekly basis.
We will still need volunteers for hearing readers.
Swimming
Swimming times are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 2.15-3.15.
We shall continue to use our hall this term for drama, gymnastics, dance, and games.

Homework
Homework will follow the Homework Policy, which for Y3/4 is:
Daily reading and sharing of books with parents/carers.
Learning of weekly spellings
A piece of literacy work and a piece of Maths work.
Practicing multiplication tables and other related facts
Occasionally children may be invited to find out more about their topic work.

Homework will be in a homework folder which needs to stay in your child's book bag. Homework is given out on Wednesdays with the last possible day for handing in being a Monday. This gives us both the opportunity to keep up with marking but allows some flexibility.

Please check and initial your child's Homework Diary each week as this adds value to their efforts and we will do the same usually on a Friday. Children are asked to hand in their diaries and homework on a weekly basis, if for some reason this is not happening please come and tell us. You can also use your homework diary to communicate other information or concerns and we are available after school (except Tuesdays and Wednesdays which are staff meeting days) to sort out any issues. Also please come in after school if you want to see any special work your child may be particularly keen to show you.

Spelling
We have attached a letter about spelling. We will be testing children in a different way. They will have a weekly dictation including some of the words we have learnt. The children will be taught the spelling rule in class and will have additional activities in class or for homework. The aim is that children are confident with spelling rules so that they can spell any word using rules they have learnt. They will have a differing number of words to learn from week to week.

Also if you have a particular skill you think we can use please let use know.

we hpoe you enjoy your time in class 3.
