The Curriculum

The Curriculum

The curriculum covers everything we do in school. We strive to provide a broad and balanced curriculum so that all children can develop not only academically but also physically and socially. We recognise that each child is an individual and we strive to help each child develop as far as his/her ability will allow.
We set out to meet the needs of individual children by carefully assessing their present achievements and providing class, group and individual work to take them forward to the next stage of learning.

We recognise that parents play a vital role in the education of their children and we strive to build the best possible working partnerships.
Our school aims will be achieved through the teaching of the National Curriculum and by encouraging children to take part in all wider school activities. The National Curriculum lays down programmes of study and attainment targets on a subject basis.
National Curriculum Subjects:
Core Subjects
English
Science
ICT (Information & Communications Technology)
Mathematics

Foundation Subjects
History
Geography
Music
Religious Education
Art
Physical Education
PSHE Personal ,Social and Health Education
Design and Technology

There are also additional school activities and opportunities that enhance the children's education. These include personal, social, health and citizenship education, instrumental music tuition, cycle proficiency, drama, residential visits, extra curricular clubs and other similar projects, which enable us to provide a broad and balanced curriculum.

During the Summer Term children in Year 2 are required to take National Curriculum tasks or tests in English and Mathematics. Children in Year 6 are required to take the National Curriculum Tests in English, Mathematics and Science.

Most of our work is taught within a two year rolling programme. Some work arises from visits to the local environment and beyond. First-hand experience always plays an important part in the children's learning.
